Back to school? Carrying heavy bags? Too much time on Computers?

Remedial Massage can help!!

Neck and shoulder pain has become more of a problem in our fast-paced society. Students’ study routines are taken up mostly by the use of computers, carrying heavy books, sitting in a flexed, forward position for long periods of time and bags that do not support the back, neck and shoulders. Subsequently, these will have consequences for the neck, back and shoulders. Most people experience this whilst studying, using computers, driving, exercising or sleeping. It can appear gradually due to the build-up of tension in the soft tissues. Remedial Massage is one of the best ways to relieve sore, tight muscles using various techniques such as myofascial release, trigger point therapy, corrective techniques and compression massage.

A build-up of tension in the muscles can cause headaches, restriction in range of movement, anxiety and tension, and referred pain down the arm and hands. Remedial massage techniques can help relieve tight, restricted muscles. The neck and shoulders are prone to tension due to the weight of your head and the neck’s high mobility. Therefore, the ligaments and muscles must work hard to support them. Poor posture, carrying heavy bags and books, the constant use of computers with late study nights and the high stress associated with having to meet assignment deadlines all take their toll on the upper body.

Benefits of Remedial Massage

There are many benefits of Remedial Massage Therapy, such as eliminating the tension and spasms in the muscles, improving poor posture and relieving stress associated with study. Loosening up the neck, back and shoulder muscles will open a path for better blood flow. Therefore, more oxygen is delivered to the brain and headaches are reduced. In addition, corrective techniques can help with better posture, creating a more pain-free and sustainable way to continue your study year ahead.

Our physiotherapists work closely with the remedial massage therapist and, therefore, are always able to assist and give advice with the best course of action if necessary. Please call Alchemy in Motion for your Remedial Massage treatment plan.
