Known locally as Jo the Osteo

Jo has practised as an osteopath since 2015, following earlier training and practice in massage therapy. His interest in healthcare began well before his osteopathy studies, including training and service in the German ambulance service in 2003. Fast forward 12 years, he completed three bachelor’s degrees at RMIT University, with studies spanning complementary medicine, health science and osteopathy.

His clinical work focuses on musculoskeletal concerns, with a predominantly hands-on approach informed by anatomy, physiology and current understanding of pain. He considers the presenting symptoms alongside relevant health history, movement, work demands, exercise and everyday activities. This helps him develop a management plan that reflects the individual’s circumstances and goals.

Jo’s approach combines manual treatment with clear explanations and practical guidance. Depending on the assessment and the client’s preferences, care may include soft-tissue techniques, joint mobilisation or manipulation, and dry needling where appropriate. Exercise, stretching, movement and breathing strategies may also form part of the plan, with an emphasis on advice that is realistic to put into practice.

He values involving clients in decisions about their care, including discussing the proposed treatment, its potential benefits and risks, and available alternatives. His aim is to help people better understand their symptoms and build confidence in managing their own musculoskeletal health, rather than relying solely on hands-on treatment.

Jo’s perspective is also informed by his own rehabilitation following a serious motorcycle accident. That experience contributes to his appreciation of the practical challenges and uncertainty that can accompany recovery, while recognising that every person’s experience is different.

Jo has also completed introductory, advanced and masterclass dry needling training with CPD Health Courses under Dr Wayne Mahmoud (DO, DTCM).
